Video award

Texel, September 2018

During the NIOZ Science Days, when all the NIOZ scientists gather on the Island of Texel to talk about their work, I was awarded for the video I made about my research. I think it is amazing that the NIOZ inspires its scientists to translate their work into compelling stories. This way our science gets a place in society.

Of course we see scientists on the news and in talkshows all the time, but then they’re often being asked specific questions about current problems. But actually, we have our own questions that we try to answer in order to understand the World we live in. Telling a comprehensive little story about what you do is like opening a door and showing others a piece of yourself. And it’s a lovely exercise: think about it, how would you describe what you do to a layman in less than 3 minutes? What pictures would you use? Which music would you play?

Also, honestly, I do not feel comfortable being in the spotlights, which you can clearly see in the pictures of me on stage. So making a video about my work (without me in it) is perfect.

Curious about the video? Have a look at my portfolio or go to YouTube to see all of my videos.
